Placing a loved one in a nursing home is one of the most difficult tasks a family ever faces. When it becomes necessary, prospective residents and their families should have the best information available to make this decision. It’s a good idea to do some research before you visit any nursing home. Some items are subject to personal preferences, while others are critical to a resident’s health and well being. Ask nursing home residents, resident’s families, citizen advocacy groups, and your physician for their opinion regarding various facilities.

Gogebic Medical Care Facility is located in a graciously wooded area where residents can relax in a peaceful and serene environment. Our beautiful flower garden has a large gazebo and winding walking path with several seating areas, and is enjoyed by residents and their families alike.
Nursing home admissions can be short term or long term. Many of our residents stay only long enough to regain their strength after an illness or injury. Our staff takes great pride when someone has recovered from their illness or injury and is then able to return to their own home.
Steps to Admission
There are a few steps to be completed prior to a nursing home admission.

First you must see your physician to obtain a complete medical history and the current physical status of your health. The physician will order a chest x-ray, urinalysis, and blood tests to be performed prior to admission.

A pre-admission screening for mental illness or dementia will also need to be done. This is usually done while you are in the hospital, or if you are coming from home, your doctor may complete the appropriate paperwork. If you are coming from a hospital, A Discharge Summary is required. Provide your insurance cards, including Medicare, any supplement insurance, and Michigan Medicaid if you receive assistance.

Families may bring in a television as long as it meets size requirements – there will be a nominal charge for cable services. If requested, a telephone can be placed at the resident’s bedside, also for a nominal monthly charge.

Gogebic Medical Care Facility accepts admissions seven days a week / 24 hours a day. Admission times and transportation need to be prearranged.
